Hi Angelenos,
This rain is a blessing, always a blessing. We, on a budget and only renting, have set up a very simple catchment system. Simple gutter system from the roof (and noting where on the roof the most drippings come from anyway)...all lead to a Rubbermaid trash can. Now of course I'd love a 500 gallon cistern, but as I said, we're renting and are on a budget. So, a couple trashcans of water stored away for some springtime watering, it will help.
If this idea could spread around the whole city, what a revolution! Of course, people who have money $$$ and are building new houses can set up huge underground cisterns...with all major gutters flowing into that. BOOM, thousands of gallons caught each winter. More gardens, more trees... MORE TREES = MORE RAIN!
Hurrah! I can hardly contain my excitement. Just tapping my toes and waiting for permaculture to become MAINSTREAM.
