Here is the latest in the planning for the Official First Annual Burning Bush Eco Festival. Aka LA Permaculture Guild fundraiser.
Although I have not seen the space personally, senior members of our group attest to Freeman's Brewery compound as perfect for our needs. However he is not into loudness into the night, so only an afternoon thing would work. Perhaps Sunday May 30, with a couple good bands until midnight or so.
Yet there is that yearning to pull out the plugs and rock the house till the break o' dawn. If this is essential to the group then the date and location would change. We could go for June 5 at any number of alternate locations. Please let me know your preference. Discuss.
Either way we will have quality booths and speakers for the first hours, then when the old folks and kids leave we can kick it old school. This will leave a more lasting effect on the participants and command a higher entrance fee.
A more ideal vision would incorporate a natural setting where there could be lasting demonstrations and outdoor fun. There is this amazing spot less than an hour from town called Gold Creek Ranch that we could get for about $1000. With the proper acts, people would travel.

Re: Fundraiser
Mon, April 26, 2004 - 12:56 PMThe thoughts I heard from people this weekend are that a big party into the night is preferable and the date can be pushed back if necessary to accomodate this. Also, pushing the date back would give a bit more time to get bigger headline speakers. June 5 is ok with me. Speaker crew, does that give you enough time?
I love the idea of an outdoor party, but maybe keeping it in town keeps it simpler for now? What costs are we looking at for in-town venues? Do we have to think about insurance or that kind of thing?
Also, FYI, we are talking about recruiting the nekkid ladies to host the bar. Yay nekkid ladies!

Re: Fundraiser
Fri, April 30, 2004 - 7:00 AMJeez, it took me a while to figure out how to repy. The bar was way over on the left underneath some pop up ads.
Anyway I think we could do the May date as practice plan on it being less of a dancing event and more like an afternoon picnic or some such? then use the skills we gained to try and get some big name (Woody Harleson?) to speak and make it a big event. I've got a prior commitment on June 5 (to go speak permaculture at a freedom community conference) then June 13-26 is the design course in SLO. Just fyi.
I trust that whatever y'all decide will be the right decision and I will help you in any way I can whether I get to party til dawn or not!

Re: Fundraiser
Fri, April 30, 2004 - 12:14 PMHi all,
Well, Geoff, can we still move forward with the 29th or 30th, or is it too late at this point? What is up with the venue? What do we need to do to make it happen?

Re: Fundraiser
Thu, May 6, 2004 - 9:39 AMit seems that an in town, until midnite, event might be a good first event. we can go for a bigger deal after we gain some experience. thank you geoffrey.
