Cob Stories

Dear people who need to know,
What a day it was for me today. I woke up at 6:30 ate and spun off on my journey. I needed to collect broken concrete (urbanite) for the foundation of the Waldorf Project oven. It was just across the street down the RR tracks where idiots dump their useless junk all the time. I'm always looking off to the side for these reusable treasures. Anyway I drove down the road a block or two and saw these Mexican men standing talking right next to this huge pile of pay dirt, trash for them. I attempted to ask them if I could have some of their wonder urbanite, bricks and miles of clay for the oven. Well they were so cool they said,"Si". I know what that means and I was in heaven. I took down the managers name Trino and said, "Mucho gracias Senor" . I was so happy I went back to my van and loaded it up with great bullnose shaped bricks and urbanite. The guys waved bye as I said I'll be back. I then checked out my favorite spot where I found tons of sand, red and tan clays. When I slammed the door I looked down on the ground and saw a pile of tires with produce. Avocados, pineapple, cherries and tires. When you see food on the side of the road especially near RR you really don't plan on eating it. I ended up picking up the hard avocados (25 fruit) in a clear plastic bag, looked around and jumped in the van. I did crab a few more bricks before heading down the tracks to a junkyard that sells rocket and jet parts amongst other treasures. I bought a 55gal drum for $5.41 and I didn't have the penny so the cashier let me have it for a penny less. So now I have a bag of avocados a drum and up a penny. I still need to get some mesh for the oven ash filtering system, so I drove down the RR tracks where I see a marble fabricators dumpster. I'm still needing peddles for the flower cob oven. The peddles are where you put your pizza when you your waiting and then placed when finished. When the dust cleared from my van I look into this powdery pile and see my peddles, Italian granite ovals cut out for a sink. There were five in all and just perfect for the job. I didn't stop there, so I went inside where there were six Latinos working hard this first day of Memorial Day weekend sweeping up all the power and more ovals all over the place. I was so happy to find this stockpile of shinny granite that one fellow saw how happy it made me, so he gave me a edge polished round piece for the door of the oven that worked out to be the perfect size. I was so happy as I walked back to my car thinking wait till the children see these peddles. I thought if the owner was there he probably won't have given me these polished peddles. As I looked down the RR tracks into the distance I pondered, how cool this was compared to going shopping at Home Depot where you have to show your receipt and wait in line smelling fretilizer. A second later I looked down on the floor of my van at those 25 avocados and brought them to my new found heroes in that dusty shop. I handed the bag to the one closed to me and they all had big smiles of thanks. I love my job.

Ask and you'll always receive something.
