Maximillian just put up a temporary website for us all to view in real time as the design process unfolds. please view it at
www.losangelespermacultureguild.cjb.net/
any artwork or materials to include can be emailed to david@greeningplanet.com
also registered are www.losangelespermacultureguild.com and www.lapermacultureguild.com if we choose to use one of those for a URL
i am glad to be a part of creating something we can all be proud of.
let's continue the discussions here on tribe so that we don't have to keep cutting and pasting every email address manually.

briefly,
i like your ideas and thoughtfulness
i think a website is the place to start
love the idea of a need and resource list!
i also think a discussion group would be good
since we have lapg for posts, maybe having a
discussion forum would be good too!
what's great about yahoo groups is you can go to the
website!

Re: LAPG website forum
Wed, April 20, 2005 - 1:35 PMthe yahoo group seems like a great resource for any group like this. i would do that myself.
also, the lack of interaction is the reason i was thinking of a self sufficient website to start with. as much interaction as possible is on the right track i believe.
please view the website and come up with some design elements, and ideas when you can.
needz : more constituents
resource consolidation
i see the LAPG as a group that could grow into a dynamic broad based community organization that is involved directly with regional & city planning.
as far as the continuing discussions related to LAPD let utilize the existing tribe page so that everyone can read all the emails and send to everyone as well.
best wishes
david

I think the yahoo group is a good idea since it keeps a record of our emails, gives a space for pictures and other pieces to save (needs and resources), allows each participant to have a profile with brief info about themselves, is able to have several moderators, and we can have reminder notices about events and such that are pre-programed.
One of the negatives of arashi.com is that we have no control over it and there's no interaction.
People have expressed frustration about difficulty in signing on in the past. It's interface is not naive.
I see yahoo groups as "in addition to" a website.
I agree with Heather that we need to decide what we need and what we want to grow into.
I would like to be part of that discussion but I won't be in Venice Friday during the day. How about a conference call?
Apparently there was a yahoo group already created from members of the current class for "The Los Angeles Permaculture Guild". I know I wasn't invited to join that list and suspect that other members of the local guild weren't either. If we decide to go with a yahoo group could we use that yahoo groups and invite the rest of us?

Re: LAPG website forum
Mon, May 9, 2005 - 9:14 PMOne idea I've had re: urban permaculture is "work parties". Often an individual goes through the stage of converting their rather conventional yard to a more "permaculture yard" - and that stage often takes more work that one person can handle easily. (.. as well as be puzzling to someone just getting acquainted with permaculture principles.)
"Work parties" could be facilitated through the web, where someone posts digital pictures of their yard, describes what they'd like to do, and invites folks over to help with the conversion. Potluck could be brought, musical instruments, muscle, and some with permaculture know-how. Good way to transform L.A., make friends, share knowledge, & build community, work the land.
Pictures could be took during and after the party, too, and posted to the web with a short description and thank you to folks. So, it'd be celebration, gratitude, and encouragement for others to do the same.
In addition to "yard conversions", there could also be "planting parties" and "harvest parties".
Seems to me that community is a big part of permaculture, and this could be a way to further fun agrarian community in the Los Angeles area.

Re: LAPG website forum
Sun, May 15, 2005 - 8:01 AMgreat idea! I have grand visions for my yard but have been stuck at the discouraging "digging out bermuda grass stage" for months and months. I'd love to host a work party.
Do you mind if I post this on the City Repair list? lists.riseup.net/www/info/cityrepairla

Work Party: Jennifer's Yard
Mon, May 16, 2005 - 9:55 AM> Do you mind if I post this on the City Repair list? >
Don't know if there's anyone with authority here to really answer that - but it looks like an open list, and your event is appropriate.
Also, there is the event listing here.
I think that this idea could really build momentum over time.

Re: Work Party: Jennifer's Yard
Mon, May 16, 2005 - 2:51 PMI'm the moderator of the LA City Repair list so I can post it, but since it was your idea I wanted to ask you 1st. Seems like a yes
:-)
I guess the way to start is to pick a date and publicize it. Then the host figures out the desired tasks and get all the materials and tools needed ahead of time. I'm going to think about a date, maybe in early July because I'm swamped with Bike Summer organizing through June.

Re: Work Party: Jennifer's Yard
Tue, May 24, 2005 - 8:06 PMHoly jeez! so much activity while I've been off in my head somewhere else! I have some ideas about what I want on a site. The urban pc guild in san fran has a nice site. I like their links - don't particularly care for their aesthetic though. I want links to other permaculture organizations. I want pictures of local projects and wish lists of projects in other places. I want information that describes permaculture (have different guild members quotes about what it is to them?), I want an events list that is continually updated, I want a needs and resources list that members can update themselves.
A place to start?
